Introduction

Key Stage 3 is the bridge between primary and secondary school — and at Sunrise Virtual School, it is deliberately built as one. Serving Years 7, 8 and 9, this Lower Secondary stage is where learners stop being taught by a generalist and start being taught by specialists: separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics teachers, a History department, languages, computing and more. The focus shifts to acquiring deeper knowledge and greater independence across a wider, more technical curriculum — combining Science, the Arts, Creativity, Physical Education and Social Education.

Lessons remain live and interactive through the learner dashboard, so families can relocate, travel or homeschool without interrupting progress. Learners also take part in D.E.A.R, themed assemblies, contests, academic trips, clubs and meetups, alongside a life-skills and career guidance programme.

The stage ends at the end of Year 9 with the Lower Secondary Checkpoint Tests in English (First Language), Mathematics and Science — marked against an international benchmark — giving learners essential feedback before they choose the subjects they will carry into Key Stage 4.
