Sports Club

Sports is a critical part of physical and mental development of a child. Students at Sunrise get vast opportunities to engage in sporting activities through an array of collaborators that we work with that parents can engage. Parents are also at liberty to enroll their students to their own sports academies of choice.

Sporting activities may include the following:

Music Club

We encourage and work with our parents to ensure students that have interest and gifting in music are enlisted with various music clubs where they can join other students to learn on various aspects of music such as organizing concerts, workshops and performances. It offers practice spaces and a wide array of instruments which are safely stored; an opportunity for students to come together and discuss music and a chance to perform and showcase their talents at events throughout the year.

Why is this important?

Music Club focuses on cultivation of musical talent amongst the students, they get to participate and gain exposure to various musical activities to develop and acquire a rich array of musical skills. Music Club is core for students who have interest in music. We encourage our parents to make a commitment to enlist their students with some of our selected clubs and any other clubs of their choice provided there is demonstrable commitment, professionalism and diverse aspects of music at play, including music recording. An ideal Music club should be able to meet regularly, meetings should not take more than two hours, and it should be moderately priced.

Objectives:

The general objectives of the Music Club are:

• To engage musically talented/experienced students in club’s activities
• To maintain the progress in their musical skills throughout the academic years
• To bring the theoretical knowledge obtained in music courses into practice
• To develop organizational skills in students through creating bands and managing concerts
• To foster leadership skills in students through practicalities of musical performances
• To develop critical listening and analyzing skills, and enhance the enjoyment for music

Fine Arts Club

Art club is a platform to develop aesthetic values and enhance the creative skills and artistic talents of students. It allows for free expression from students they can feel open to experimenting and creating from their imaginations. Every student has unique ideas and powerful imaginations and need the space to work through their artistic expression on their own terms, without any objectives and boundaries.

Fine art activities may include but not limited to the following:

4. Handicraft
5. Origami
6. Woolen Work
7. Wooden Work/ Art/Artwork
8. Paper Craft
9. Fashion and design.

• Provide a learning experience that fosters the student’s aesthetic and artistic skills, confidence as they practice and art and design appreciation.
• Foster and enhance the student’s ability to appreciate, respond enjoy, value, create and communicate through art and design.
• Develop the student’s individuality and self-esteem through artistic achievement.
• Encourage the students to work in collaborated projects with others.

• Allow students to work through the process of bringing an idea from conception to realization.
• Promote an understanding of relevant current tools and technologies applied to fine arts.
• Provide opportunities for students to become conversant with the use of a variety of materials, media, tools and equipment.

Leap Hubs Incubation Clubs

We are excited to announce the launch of our Entrepreneurship Club for students this September at Sunrise Virtual School! This club will give students practical skills and real-world knowledge to help them succeed in business. Over the course of a year, students will take part in an engaging program that will end with a certificate from the Global Peace Foundation for those who complete it successfully. Additionally, students will learn how to set their own financial goals, manage their finances effectively, and assist in filing tax returns. These essential financial skills will prepare them for the practical aspects of running a business and ensure they are financially literate. Each month, the club will dive into one of these important topics. Alongside this, students will work on a hands-on project where they will identify a problem, come up with a solution, write a business plan, register a company (through proxy), apply for necessary licenses, develop a marketing plan, pitch to investors, and open a bank account.

Tech-Hub Club

Ethics & Character Club

The Ethics and Character Club is a co-curricular activity designed to promote ethical thinking, moral reasoning, and character development among students. The club focuses on fostering a sense of integrity, responsibility, and social consciousness, helping students to navigate ethical dilemmas and make principled decisions in their personal and academic lives while in school and beyond.

What is the aim of the club?

The Ethics and Character Club aims to be a dynamic and impactful part of the school's co-curricular offerings, contributing to the holistic development of students and preparing them to be thoughtful, ethical leaders in their communities.

President's Award Club

The President’s Award-Kenya provides a framework (The Award) for non-formal education and learning through which young people’s achievements outside of academia are recognized and celebrated. The Award guides young people aged 14-24 to use their free time productively to equip themselves with positive life skills and character development to make a difference for themselves, their communities, country and the world. We help young people find their purpose, passion and place in the world. The President’s Award-Kenya is a State Agency under the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy & Sports licensed to run the Award Programme by the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, Its patron is His Excellency the President of the Republic of Kenya, and commander in chief of the Defense Forces.

Why the award?

The Award focuses on allowing young people to step outside of their comfort zone; to try, test and reassess new ways of doing things in new and unfamiliar settings. This set framework encourages young people to explore new frontiers, push their limits, and learn from both their successes and their mistakes. Through doing their Award therefore, young people can be empowered with not just the confidence but the desire to create meaningful change; to find their purpose, passion and place in the world while impacting the world positively.

D.E.A.R Programme

The British International Curriculum’s language of instruction is the English language, its backbone is reading, writing, comprehension listening and speaking. To effectively instill a reading culture in our learners we Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R) every

for twenty minutes. This is also a Sunrise community activity (parents,

learners

, teachers, management, and other family members). Children learn by imitation and hence we all come together to set an example to our learners. This activity is conducted virtually.

Guidance & Counselling

The importance of guidance and counselling should be taught to children and how it can help them shape their future journey. Schools have a huge role in bringing the best out of children. Good conduct is coveted, but sometimes young minds need guidance to polish their personality. Through counselling, children are given advice on how to manage and deal with emotional conflict and personal problems.

Proper counselling will help incorporate valuable lessons into their daily life. Some sessions should involve career guidance, where the students are advised on the selection of courses and different career paths. It’s important to prepare them for life after school and what to expect in the different fields they might opt for

1. Students are given proper guidance on how to deal with psychological problems which can badly impact their studies. Through these sessions, the students will be able to develop certain problem-solving skills which to an extent help them deal with particular issues surrounding their lives.

2. The students are advised on how to cope with different situations they tend to face in their school life. For instance, how should they talk politely or relate with their peers? This advice will give them perspective on how should they behave in certain scenarios.

3. It helps to shape a student’s behavior and also instill enough discipline in them. Proper guidance helps them achieve their goals, well guided & counselled students to know what to do and how to do things in the best possible way.

4. Students learn how-to live-in peace and harmony with others in the school community. Thereby, they also learn to appreciate other people in their class.

5. It helps to bridge the gap between students and the school administration since they are able to guide their problems through a proper counselling channel in the office.

6. Students get comprehensive advice on careers, courses, and jobs that enable them to make a proper and informed choice and understand what they can do after they are done with school.

7. It allows students to talk to teachers about various experiences that make them uncomfortable. They can openly share problems that they cannot share with their parents.

8. Talks related to alcohol, drugs, personal feelings, or any kind of abuse, can be openly discussed. Guidance and counselling also make students better human beings since they are counselled on how to act and behave in a particular situation

9. It enables students undergoing certain difficulties in their lives, to ask questions and clarify them through guiding and counselling. Therefore, counselling helps them ask without any fear since the person in charge is willing to help.

10. We also guide the students on what to expect on the internet, and how to deal with various aspects of internet and social media.

How do we achieve this?

• Our teachers have been trained to scan and intervene in different areas of need in students during usual class interactions. This available to all Sunrise students and if an issue is noted, teachers intervene at the earliest possible and may involve our guidance and counseling department, and where need be, parents may be looped along.
• We have full-time personnel who ensures to have a session with each Sunrise student at least once a semester.
