How co-curricular life reinforces learning at Sunrise Virtual School

Ask a Sunrise learner what they love about school and the answer is rarely a worksheet. It is the Friday hangout. The week their class led assembly. The contest they won, the piece they performed, the culture they presented to the whole community.

That is not a distraction from the timetable. It is part of it.

At Sunrise Virtual School, co-curricular life is designed to do a kind of academic work that a lesson cannot: it turns knowledge into use, rehearsal into fluency, and a subject on a screen into something a learner owns. A learner who researches a theme and presents it in assembly has done the reading, the evaluation and the speaking. One who enters a language mastery contest has practised vocabulary under pressure — and enjoyed it. One who performs at a talent show has stood in front of their peers and discovered that nerves pass.
